I thought i'd post this topic as i thought it may become a place for people to come for idle general chat on nothing in particular and latest updates in our lives that may (or not) actually be ...interesting .
As it did in a tribe i played in a game called tribal wars which i have now given up playing .

Did you mean to say Solstice? In which case, thank you.

Let's not rehash the climate issue in this thread, ok? Maybe you'd like to start a new thread for that.

we can talk about that as it is an issue for this time of year . i love all that stuff ,and we're facing our first white christmas in the uk ,so it really adds to that original pagan feeling of the long bleak winter we're enduring atm.
I.ve been to a few solstices at stone henge in the 90's the winter ones being very quiet affairs and a summer one clashing with police in riot gear and a helicopter ..
well here's to the sun making his way back after it's journey down south ,

edit - i've just noticed the point your making Rex ,after looking at your videos ,and i see your refering to the weather in colorado , and we're having it easy over here in the uk i guess. hope anyone involved all the best for getting through such a tough time atm.

I'm a Christian Mog and so I reserve the right to put the Star of Bethlehem atop a Christmas Tree and celebrate 12/25/10 as the Birthday of Our Lord and Savior (i.e. *"Our"* referring to the rest of us in whom the aforementioned idea is not repulsive );

So as far as I'm concerned *"Soltice"* is good enough inspite of you being lucky enough to catch my spelling error (i.e. keeping in mind your editing capabilities )
and/but also Mog I call your attention to the openning comment of the thread author:

"I thought i'd post this topic as i thought it may become a place for people to come for idle general chat on nothing in particular and latest updates in our lives that may (or not) actually be ...interesting .""

PS:
"hitmewithit",
well yes there is a mention of the idea in those videos that compared to our snow conditions in North America, the conditions in Europe, although unusual, are really only quite modest except that a lack of preparation may be causing an otherwise modest condition to seem extreme.
Of course the lack of preparation of the Europeans may be thanks to the global warming enthusiasts.

Anyway that's been my point "hitmewithit", in a long drawn out debate with Mog a while ago, that the really biggest greenhouse effect has been caused by water vapor in the atmosphere;
but having aced meteorology in college, I've argued that water vapor will become snow when it hits 32 degree weather in the north and in mountainous areas and that snow will have a dual effect to reflect the sunlight while also cooling the air by absorbing heat during melting of it.

The result will be that gradually, over possibly even the next decade, the snowline will be expanded farther and farther south and also the covered area of mountain glaciers will be increased until all of that snow will eventually cause the warming effect of the sun on our atmosphere to be significantly reduced for several years with then less snowfall because of then less atmospheric water vapor and so with a gradual reverse back to a warming trend ...
the entire cycle varies about every 20 to 30 years and in the meteorology text, the term *"mini-iceage"* has been used to describe it.

As far as I'm concerned that's all I have to say now on the topic and also as far as I'm concerned "hitmewithit", I've just answered your query/comment concerning the videos I've provided:

"edit - i've just noticed the point your making Rex ,after looking at your videos ,and i see your refering to the weather in colorado , and we're having it easy over here in the uk i guess. hope anyone involved all the best for getting through such a tough time atm."-"hitmewithit",

Thanks for those comments rex ,I've been fascinated in meteorology myself though didn't study at college just books,but Mogs right that it should have a seperate thread devoted to the subject ,or drag back a previous one ,if we wish to pursue it in depth....i will read your theories with interest.
i'm aware there has been mini ice-ages in medievel times and even one in the last 100 years i believe,
.Personally i suspect when the sun makes it's way north and all this snow melts we may have some serious problems with flooding.
any more discussion on meteorology go here please -waronline.net/forums/posts.asp?m=15707

I like white chocolate cookies ,brown chocolate burns and goes bitter ,,also some macadamia nuts in too ..

Unfortunately I don't agree that "Mog's right" because my first post here was short and sweet and I had no intention to debate the climate change here or anywhere else for that matter.

There's something of a religious issue in my second post if you've been following the news ...
the atheists are now trying to get American business to stop promoting Christmas with Christmas Tree displays because they claim it's bad for their well-being or something like that.

Finally in my address to you in my second post, all I did was agree with you and elaborate on the comparison of American and European snow conditions,
but excuse me for clarifying to you that the videos of the snow were offerred as proof of my righteousness concerning an old debate

and you are right that flood conditions will occur due to the melting of snow that fell, but not for the melting of the polar ice caps that the global warmers tried to lead us to believe
and each year for several years it won't all melt.
On the mini-iceages "hitmewithit", yes there have been the ones you mention, but I'm referring to a 20 to 30 year cycle of mini-iceages (nothing all that dramatic as those you mention).

As far as your other global warming thread "hitmewithit", I repeat that all I'm doing is answering where I'm addressed and so I'll continue to post where I'm addressed if that's okay and I wish you didn't title your other thread as you did ...
I've lost interest in this global warming crap long ago, but the truth of my righteousness on the topic has become quite obvious imho.

PS:
The "Smoke filled room" must be about burned cookies I guess ...
you guys can talk all you want about cookies, but I ate a couple tall house cookies with both chocolate chips and walnuts yesterday as a matter of fact.

Trots -that takes the biscuit

No Mog ,,i said brown chocoalte b u r n s not bums ,the r is very close to the m ,,dafty ,and Mog ,when you get the chance ,could you delete my topic on meteorology ,obviously not such a great idea ..

Here's a point , i personaly respect peoples religeous beliefs ,but i feel the true roots of these celebrations we are having at present truly started with the pagan idea of 'getting through' the most darkest times of the year with light,feasting and spending time together.Sorry for any offence to anyone but it's just how i feel .
Yes christmas is commercialised but Jesus still gets plenty of PR as he does in Easter ,and every sunday.So i think we can assume our future generations certainly wont be able to miss the point of christianity ,even if we seem to think they do.Christmas wouldn't be christmas without religeous carols,cards, nativity scenes and that feeling of peace and good will to all, although i do get slightly dubious when i see our neighbourhood kids throwing snowballs at frail elderly people,but i live in hope.

Up here its not called christmas but jul, or yule in english.
We had our traditions stolen by the church but we kept the name at least
Well, we still celebrate the return of light but at the 13th as that was the solstice in the old calendar.

There's some truth I guess to your choice of words Lod, but I prefer the word *evolved* instead of *"stolen"*
and if you get into these links:

www.oldandsold.com/articles02/yuletide1.shtml

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_of_Bethlehem

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Prophecy

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Scroll

"The War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness is a manual for military organization and strategy that was discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls. It is also known by the names "War Rule", "Rule of War", and "War Scroll". The document is made up of various scrolls and fragments including 1QM, 4Q491-496. It is possible that The War of the Messiah is the conclusion to this document.[1] More recent study suggests that 4Q491 is three separate documents all describing the same events.[citation needed]
These scrolls contain an apocalyptic prophecy of a war between the Sons of Light and the Sons of Darkness. The war is first described as an attack by the Sons of Light, consisting of the sons of Levi, the sons of Judah, and the sons of Benjamin, and the exiled of the desert, against Edom, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Amalekites, Philistia, and the Kittim of Asshur (referred to as the army of Belial), and [those who assist them from among the wicked] who "violate the covenant."[2] In the end, all of Darkness is to be destroyed and Light will live in peace for all eternity."-from the last wiki link above;

You may (i.e. if you're a Christian) find that yuletide may have provided a setting for the coming of the Christ (the Messiah) just as we Christians really use the Christmas Tree to provide a setting to afix the Star of Bethlehem atop it and the visitation by the magi to the manger beneath it.

Where is there mention of the Star of Bethlehem by ancient pagans ... there's lots of mention of Druids using a golden scythe to cut mistletoe in that first link, but no mention of the Star of Bethlehem;
but finally please find the words:
"The War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness"
in that last link taken from the *"Dead Sea Scrolls"*
and then see if you can match it with anything in that first link above (i.e. you should be able to do so).

Here I'm not trying to attribute firstness to the ancient pagans or to the Hebrews, but please realise that you've again misused the words: "stolen by the church" because if anyone did any *stealing or plagiarizing*, it was either the pagan ancients or the ancient Hebrews.

PS:
If you research it, you'll find that those ancient Hebrews got around spreading their blood, words and ideas all over the ancient world. Exactly where a read it escapes me now, but there's mention in one of those links of sending messengers to spread the word of the coming of the Messiah.

So it may have been the ancient pagans themselves that sculpted their beliefs to conform to a story told them of the coming of a Messiah.
