Just a thought, how about dividing the game into two separate move cycles 12 hours apart? Let one clan go first, then 12 hours later allow the other clan to respond.

I've been on both sides of the speedy mouse finger equation and it is definitely harmful to the game but as of now it is vital to get some moves made exactly on the tick, as Biscuit found out last night. If my wireless had been its usual flaky self I may have missed out entirely.

It was a dark and stormy night.

The next day, Mog was darning a pair of socks and glanced up, hearing what sounded like jingling spurs on the breeze.

"Heavens to Betsy, what's all that racket out there anyway?" the mangy old dogman growled. He peered past the hedge and saw a horizon spiky with horsemen of a sickly greenish hue.

"What terrible disease do these fellows have?!" he wondered. "Could this skin discoloration be the dreaded CORFLU???" Mog shuddered, dropped his darning and whistled for his manservant Shrevesport.

"Send out the alarm, Shrevesport! Tell the mighty hosts of all lands to rally to the Mogly realms for this is the hour..." Shrevesport, knowing just how long the bumpf could roll, took off to warn the other Clown Kings of this impending danger. "What a perfect whankmeister he is, I wonder why he is such an amazing general?" Shrevesport pondered.

Meanwhile, storm clouds gathered, full of ice, running over the desert sage. A vj chirped in a tree and a gala biscuit was cooking in a snowy castle. A mouse hid in the corner, confronting a yellow plague. People got worried.

Not that anyone much cares, but here's an update on the game so far...

Current rankings: (okay, so I may be posting this because I'm in first )

1 Nebuchadnezer 4481 (100) 1036 (39) 1
2 vj121 5541 (106) 2294 (77) 1
3 Mog 4211 (78) 1189 (54) -
4 Corflu 4364 (102) 1913 (47) 1
5 gala 2920 (85) 675 (26) 1
6 Ice 2945 (65) 715 (33) 2
7 Biscuit 2850 (75) 2014 (71) 1
8 Sage 1946 (63) 1274 (38) 1
9 Coopels 1248 (41) 756 (34) 1
10 Renno 2512 (63) 2069 (70) 3

Doing the math, BoS has lost 247 troops, while CoC has lost 242...pretty even.

There have been many swings in the action...BoS attacking an exposed barracks, CoC beating them back. CoC making an offensive gamble, BoS beating them back. Everyone still has a castle...which is odd for CoC, seeing as we were usually done by turn 10 in the past!

Well played game by both sides, I think...and if anyone notices lag on the system at 00:00...it's because of the click fest that happens every turn in this game.

And we are lobbying Req to make Clan games turn based. That would get rid of the total unfairness of the clickfest aspect of the game. If you have a slow connection, you lose. That ain't fair.

If all members of a clan had to click end turn before the other side could move we'd see a lessening of the clickfest.

if he goes to all that trouble maybe he can fix the zoc issues too!

Clanmates block each other.

There used to be games specifically for clan games that allowed clan members to have no effect on each other for ZoC. Since clan games are now just unranked camps that consideration for ZoCing clan mates has disappeared and mucks up movement when working together.

I'm pretty sure Req said something about it in IRC and if he does overhall clan games then he's going to address it.

well it does mean you have to work that much harder on your coordination as a team so that the ZoC doesn't mess you up. it's hard, yes... but I've seen clans do it before without seeming to struggle all that much.

When you have ten people all moving at the same time, with more than half of them fighting at the exact same spot on the map, attacking and moving and refreshing and dozens of stacks are moving all within a couple of minutes, it's hard to make sure you don't get in each others' way.

well that's because you all move at once. that's not proper team coordination. teams that are coordinating their moves well don't move at the same time.

And hence: turn based clan games with no team zoc. We want it!

Bos makes a push forward...and now backwards!

This yo-yo-ing is making me seasick.

Crazy, could you teach BoS and CoC how to coordinate properly in a clan game?

There is now a lull, so the click fest will get a break...for a few turns. We'll see who pushes their time back in an effort to get the killer double attack again.

The defining aspect of campaigns was always the grand-scale strategy and kingdom building. The defining aspect of battles was always the small-scale tactics. If the only thing you loved about campaigns was the exploitable mechanics (which some members certainly exploited to death), can you really call yourself a strategy gamer?

no Neb, I can't teach you how the most effective way to coordiante is. I don't know it myself in full to be honest... I'm not that experienced in general let alone camp games so I'm not gonna pretend I know it all. I dunno nearly that much about the game.

what I DO know though is that I've seen other clans do fine with movement and they weren't all taking their turns at 0hr game time... they were taking them at various different times during the day, but they had to have been in some sorta coordination to know who was gonna do what and when so that they didn't interfere with each other in terms of ZoC and whatnot.

I also know that this begins from turn 1. you have to figure out right there and then when you're gonna move because once you take that 1st move, you're stuck in that time slot every day unless you wanna give up 2 possible attacks in a row to your enemy.

so the reason there's a click fest is most likely because everyone decided to take their 1st turn as soon as the game started instead of waiting to the most convenient time. I've learned that it's smarter to wait until the best time for you and plan accordingly.

"Rennos! Can you hear us?"

No sign of movement in the castle.

"Rennos! Please put down your weapons and kindly leave your castle!"

Nothing.

"Rennos! We wish for this to end peacefully! Do you understand?"

Nothing.

Whispers..."sir, they are Canadien. Maybe they don't understand you..." "oh, right, good thinking..."

"Rennos! Ya der, hay! Coold ya put those weapons down der hey, and ah, come out der hey ya hosers?"

Nothing.

In a whiney voice..."Rennos! We can see all those archers and balista you are hiding in those barracks. Please tear down your castle walls and come out."

Nothing.

whispers..."Now what sir?" "I don't know. I thought this plan would work." At this the generals of army Nebuchadnezer groan and walk back to their regiments. "What?! It was a good plan! I thought he'd want to work out some peaceful accord. After all, we don't actually know he has balista in there...where are you all going?!?"

Neb mumbles to himself..."50 archers and we still haven't attacked...chickens..."

He grabs the loudspeaker again..."Rennos! We have beer and pizza if you surrender peacefully. Just lay down your arms..."
