Attack! Attack! Attack!
By now you have opened your map and moved around a bit. Now you are ready to learn to attack an enemy! On the map are scattered some barbarian troops. They don’t move but they will retaliate when attacked.

Move a melee troop like a swordsman, scout or spearman next to the barbarian on the first phase of that troop’s turn.

Now, click on your troop and then hover over the barbarian, you’ll see two crossed swords appear over it. This indicates that you are capable of attacking the barbarian. Click on the barbarian to attack it. A window will appear that tells you just how well you did against in your attack. Due to retaliation during your attack, you will have both lost some troops.

Now, try an attack with a ranged troop.

When you hover the mouse over a ranged troop you will see the radius that it can reach with its arrows. Move a ranged troop so that this area overlaps a barbarian. Now he is in your sights! Click on your ranged troop, then click on the barbarian troop. Again, a window will open and show you the results of the attack. If you attacked a non-ranged (melee) troop, you will have gotten no retaliation from the barbarian. Only ranged troops retaliate against other ranged troops.

When you are done experimenting with attacking, go ahead and end your turn. The next hint page is about how to take over buildings.
