Talk about a hot potato...

Are you one of those mixed heavy cav/marksmen guys? (me)
Or are you one of these seemingly non-existent people who has mass stacks of weaker troops?

And have you any use for middle-of-the-road troops like Squires and Pikemen?

Discuss it all here...

Pikemen yes, if my opponent has gotten to HC before me.

I go for Archers then Marksmen, HeavyCavalry, Knights. You would hardly ever see spearmen or swordsman or even arbs in my troops.

I use marksmen, heavies and knights as well...maybe not heavies or knights until late in the game, but I always include squires and macemen in my armies for their special abilities.

Usually I go straight for Marksmen and Heavy Cavalry. Two barracks for marskmen and one for HC. Before I get the upgrades I'm pretty vulnerable though because all I got is a bunch of scouts running around heh.

I get to squires and pikemen as quick as possible. Start building these and then quickly find someone to smack. The really good players to smack are the economic ones because they upgrade mines so they generate lots of resources when I take them over.

I'm a big fan of macemen. I find that most people like HC so if I bring up my macemen in d mode the HC sorta melt away. I used to do the same thing with pikemen.

At the beginning i ussualy train only scouts and archers, then jump to falchioniers (my favourites) and start an assault. Nobody has resist to that yet

I never was under attack but i suppose best way to defense in first 50 turns is to raise some pikemens and archers (and squires?). +20% defense in castle tech is a must.

Later i use Heavy+Knights+Marksmen on easy to reach castles or Heavy+Marksmen+Marksmen. (depending of the map type)

An entrechted line of squires is better than a stone wall, especially for archers and arbs hardly damage them.

Oh how I miss Light Cavalry =_(

I find drawbridges and wall better than Squires. Archers and arbs can't even hit them once they are complete and most troops can only hit at most 250 damage to them. Only troops you need to look out for is commandeers.

Yup, but drawbridges and walls can't move towards your enemy and damage them as well.

Depends on my economy. If it sucks I stick with cheap and low resource consuming armies.

In a good economy: For range I ussauly go with archers in big #'s and and lots of marksmen in smaller #'s like 50. For melee I use Falconeirs a lot, scouts, heavy calvary not as much, then macemen, then squires and knights (not that many but a keep a few groups in) . I like to keep it mixed up so I don't get caught with the wrong army and then I find out the troops I need and I deploy them.
