I do think that speed is very important. What would it help to have a nice map if people get bored waiting for it to load/refresh ?

"The old" map was cool and nice. You moved a unit ^Bam^ the auto refresh was done and you could move the next unit.

Now you move a unit and thinks..did it arrive hmmm...refresh..lallallaa uh i could read an email..lalala - Yes the unit is there, okay next one....

well, i was actually discouraging the AutoRefresh as it caused alot of unnecessary stress on my server and connection.

Players with 100+ armies do not need to refresh the map after each and every army movement. Its just not needed.

Secondly, refreshing the Flash map is alot faster than refreshing the old image map, so you should get the data faster.

Lastly, I will be implementing an auto-update feature soon, only instead of updating the whole map each time, it just updates that 1 army. Lots faster again.

when I click open map, the flash thing pops out in a window and I get "Click here to continue" button. Once I click it, nothing happens. I tried clicking several times, and reloading the page, but nothing.

What version of the flash map do you have?
The latest version is now Ver.1.27. (you can see what version on the top-right of the map).

On another note. This new version now employs a Click/Drag army movement model. So no more clicking empty land to get a selection. Simply click/drag the army where you want it to go. Thats it! It also updates its AP after the move so you dont have to hit REFRESH at all.

Proteus, these new features are totally awesome. You have done a magnificent job and I can not wait for the next thing you implement.

Going back to the whole "Black Area" thing. In some games and conditions it works, and I don''t think that it would really work here, especially with the loss in speed which ever so important. As for the ability to see your closest ten neighbors, I think that that would be good. Just my thoughs.

we shouldnt be able to see anyone that''s not in our veiw, and perhaps when ally games start, we should be able to see them too, but thats about all.

I like knowing where everybody's starting from, it lets you think and formulate a plan to start with.

The way we have it now seems to give the best of both worlds, the only way of knowing what anybodies got and where it is is to send troops into there area to have a look, perhaps in the future some sort of spy troop could do that with a little more finnesse (Is that how you spell it), but at the same time we know in what direction everybody else is in.

To my mind that mimics perfectly warefare before the advent of planes and stuff like that, after all if the English were at war with the french in the 100 years war (yes a history lesson here folks) they may not have known exactly where the french army was on a daily basis but they sure as hell new in which direction france lay.

Not to mention, there are answers from the future on here. And then replys from even farther into the future.
