I only kill NPC when they are in the way of my plan. I save my stacks for my target, and then if possible then I do the NPC. |

| Posted : Friday, 1 October 2004 - 08:47 Yes Hosh-i the reason is it's a beginner game. Beginner games aren't ranked you can lose and it wont change your rank, you can win and it wont change your rank. Beginner games allow a new player to get an idea of what the different troops do. In most ranked games you will only have one castle not two.
Also if you want to have combat skills for the ranked games, battle some beginner players. Fights in campaigns and battles follow the same rules with 2 exceptions.
1. Battles only allow one retal no matter the size of the unit attacking it (The exception is macemen). In campaigns a unit has retal points. If all the retal points haven't been used up they will get to hit their next attacker as well (once again the exception is macemen).
2. Using defense in campaigns allows your unit a second retal. Even if the first retal was fully used up. |

| Posted : Friday, 1 October 2004 - 10:50 Yes Fan, But I was only listing the differences in the rules. Both battles and campaigns have the -5 attack +10 defense and double movement cost.
In battles you do not get the extra retal like you do in campaigns. |

| Posted : Friday, 1 October 2004 - 12:43 Try it out in a campaign Fan. When you have a unit set to defense, even if the first unit that attacks uses all of the retal, the second unit to attack will still take damage. It is reduced, but a unit set on defense gets an extra retal.
I have used defense alot, and have had it used against me as well. |

| Posted : Friday, 1 October 2004 - 13:45 The only time I have ever taken a 2nd retal hit (or dished out a 2nd retal hit) against a unit that was in defense mode is when my first unit was so small in size that it was obliterated in the attack. In campaigns such an attack only consumes a part of the units defensive BP. (Not counting macemen of course which always get a 100% BP retal).
Although in non-skirmish games if the max damage output of attacker and defender both go over 1000 then the damage reduction ratio I believe also results in a defensive BP reduction for the defender, and it that scenario it might also get another retal. It seems I had this occur to me once, but I don't generally build stacks in non-skirmish games that go much over the damage cap as doing so is a waste of unit potential and loss of ZOC control.
