This new ZOC has only been implemented recently, and can prevent you from moving past enemy armies.

| Posted : Tuesday, 25 March 2003 - 21:41 ZOC = Zone Of Control.
Every army has a ZOC of 1 sqr radius. This means, each of the 6 squares around an army is considered its ZOC.
If your army is within 1 sqr of any enemy army (next to it), you are classified as INSIDE its ZOC (on a ZOC sqr). If you arent next to any army, you are OUTSIDE the ZOC (a non-ZOC sqr).
the BLOCKING ZOC is based on the rule that you simply CANNOT move from one ZOC sqr to another ZOC sqr.
so, at ANY time while moving, if your army lands next to an enemy army (thus inside its ZOC and on a ZOC sqr), you cannot move from that location to ANOTHER ZOC sqr.
It doesnt matter who's ZOC it is either. All enemy army ZOC's are classified as 1, and cannot be moved through.
You CAN move from a non-ZOC sqr to a ZOC sqr with no penalty, and you can move off a ZOC sqr to a non-ZOC sqr with no penalty.
This means you can move next to an enemy army and away from it with no penalty provided you're not crossing any other ZOC locations in the process.
So its pretty simple. All you have to remember is, once your army is next to an enemy army, you cant move directly to another square that is ALSO next to any enemy army. | | CTDXXX Joined 19/11/2001 Posts : 5842

The 6 squares around the army are the the 8 saures directly next to it, MINUS the two squares directly to the left and right of the stack. This is VERY important with ZOC, as it may look like a unit is flouting the ZOC rules when in fact it just moved to one of the two side-squares instead. | | Requiem [R]Joined 3/02/2000 Posts : 4882

remember, we are using a HEX grid. the tiles might be diamond in shape due to the map, but the grid and calculations are based on HEX.
From the center, there are 6 directions, each one representing 1 sqr in distance.
