I haven't tried it yet,but I also plan to buy a new pc. It's seems to have a better desktop interface with more capabilities and options. I would get it.

My old XP went bad on me so I bought a new comp almost a year ago already and it came with Windows 8;
However, the new gadgetry and terminology on the comp was a head spinner to understand;

Yet at almost 71 years of age, I did get it up and running;
However, the new comp has about the same capabilities as my old one, except many features of XP don't work on it like my auto backup for example and it's slower than XP because many features XP didn't have and it's an SOB to understand where to go and how to enhance it.

Now for another example, 8.1 is being offered for free yet I dread upsetting the system I already have and not being able to remember how to fix it ...
even customer support admitted it's complicated and agreed that at my age I worked a minor miracle getting it up and running.

PS:
My McAfee backup developed a problem, but as long as it still secures the computer I haven't called McAfee about it ...
Please God just let me live 12 more years.

You might be able to buy some books about windows 8.1. How to understand it and how to get started.

I would skip it all together. Either go for 7 or wait till the next windows...or get a mac. I work with people on these systems all day. They tend to complain a lot. Me personally I will stick to 7 till I see something less fragile.
