You will need a blacksmith to build other buildings. You will want an extra military academy so you can build more troops. You will eventually want a Training Guild to allow some improvements in movement and etc.

You need to build a Marketplace in order to get the top two income techs, Government and Empire. Then you can destroy the marketplace for the gold it will return to you, and the techs will continue to provide income even though it will look like you no longer have them.

I suggest getting Building Materials, it will save you a ton in the long run.

You can build as many Barracks as you can afford, it is no longer tied to the amount of castles you own.
