I miss the way WOL was in 2004-2005. these changes since i been gone destroy the economic warfare aspect that let a truely devious player be a major threat. it seems it is a "monster mash" now without the depth it used to have. Im not good at "mashing" but i stood a decent chance as an economic barbarian.

Requiem decided to "dumb down" the game somewhat to encourage new players to stick around. He thought that simplifying the game would make it more popular. Eliminating the usefulness of all the resources took a lot of the complex economic and deployment fun as well.

Keep your eyes on the horizon for the new game.

Just out of curiosity, did the dumbing down result in the loss of players? my memory might be off a bit since it has been so long, but didnt we have ALOT of members back in 2005 before I left for deployment?

I still love this game but i miss having the ability to be playing 5 games at a time and not having to wait more than a couple days to gather the 10 players needed for them. Now it takes forever just to get into one.

The economic part was my favorite part BTW...

I started playing after the change, but sound it sounds like it was better before. It is a great game to have such longevity.

A lot of players leave after any change. The biggest die-off was when Req changed the game from Tick based to Turn based. Another segment left when he made the game so much "simpler".

Both changes were made in response to some player's suggestions or Requiem's ideas about how to build player base. There is no way for a multi-player campaign to be entirely to everyone's liking, and probably not a way to make them "fair" to everyone either.

Now Requiem has two young programmers to help him out (Heidi and Blake) and should be able to move smartly ahead with WOK. (The new game from Reqco )

Two things are constant at WoL:

1) People complaining about how it used to be better.

2) The imminent release of WoK.

I first heard about WOK coming I believe in '04, at the latest '05. Since then bugs have increased 10 fold especially at each update. Seems like a breeding grounds for complaints.
