| Posted : Thursday, 10 September 2009 - 17:10 right now cats have a 33%chance to destroy a barracks in one hit which is nulled after the first building upgrade(to any new barracks, the starting ones are still susceptible) Perhaps we should make it to where cats can take out a barracks in 3 shots(the starting ones) and on the first upgrade make it to where there is the 40-50% chance it will take 4 shots. second upgrade takes 4 shots no matter what 3rd upgrade takes 5. Ideas? | | Requiem [R]Joined 3/02/2000 Posts : 4882
| Posted : Thursday, 10 September 2009 - 17:18 I dont think Barracks should be too strong.
The idea is NOT to use them too close to the front lines, because if you do, you could lose it. If it takes 4 hits from a 10pop Cat, thats 4 turns to destroy it. Thats crazy. By then the Cat army would be destroyed.
If you build your Barracks near enemy troops, thats a risk you take. If you build it in your own defended territories, then it's less likely they will be destroyed.
I dont think a default Barracks should be any higher than 6000, which still takes 2 hits.
Dont forget, a Barracks can be built very early in a game, and in 1 turn. The amount of Cats to destroy it takes waaaay longer, and is also expensive, and takes several turns to even get to the attacking location. | | Nebuchadnezer DoCJoined 9/06/2005 Posts : 3017
| Posted : Thursday, 10 September 2009 - 17:22 Barracks cost $10k now! Who the heck is throwing up extra barracks anymore? Your initial barracks are your lifeblood in this game now. Kill them and you have no chance of survival. If there was a way to make starting barracks have more strength, it would make sense. Or a way to upgrade the barracks strength after the start of the game... | | Harold1 DoCJoined 21/04/2007 Posts : 1977
| Posted : Thursday, 10 September 2009 - 17:48 Req can you not decrease the points as the amount of barracks are built , Ie first two inside castle are at 8000 with a decrease of say 1000 per xtra one
barrack 1 and 2 @8000 barrack 3 @7000 barrack 4 @6000 barrack 5 @5000
blah blah ect ect | | TaurusRex Joined 14/06/2002 Posts : 9462
| Posted : Thursday, 10 September 2009 - 23:58 My two cents again ... gotta go along with Req on this because some of you guys do play a little too riske'.
It's just not realistic that a building as expensive and strategic as a barracks would be built so close to the front lines, unless they're being used for walls which again Req doesn't like.
TenK is pretty steep tho ... even 6K would have been enough I think to discourage indiscriminant mushrooming, but I'm fine with it as is.

| Posted : Friday, 11 September 2009 - 03:01 I was just throwing that out there, not saying that is what it should be but whether or not something like that could be considered. If it was 6000, would it take 3 hits to destroy it after the second upgrade? There are many ways this idea can be modified. I haven't checked to see how much it is for all the techs to upgrade the hp in buildings but we could figure out a good ratio for upping the hp and how the upgrades would effect the other buildings.

| Posted : Friday, 11 September 2009 - 20:35 When did barracks go up to $10k? Surely such a price leap would be heralded by shock headline on the news page "300% price hike shocker" "Lord Hutton to lead probe into construction industry cartels" etc
Seriously though I think the new price is about right (after all, with building materials a barracks is only 2/3 the cost of a new Maceman/Knight/Cavalry, and only 57% of the cost of a catapult. Bizarrely the price hike makes catapults even more important in this game. Whereas before the most economic damage they could do was $2500, now they lay waste to $10,000 of military investment in a single shot. This compares favourably with Cavalry and Ballis, which can do about $6-7000 in one hit.
Also makes Wooden shielding - Architecture a more useful investment.
