Just thought I'd post up the suggested Faction/Class system for War of Kings for discussion.

The curent system we have now in WoL, is themed Classes, and no factions. Medieval, Demonic or Barbarian are the classes and they dont mix. Each class has about 12 figures to choose from and thats it.
So you choose 1 class, and you get the troops/techs from that 1 class only.

For WoK, I plan to have 4 Factions.
Order - White (humans, gryphins, etc)
Chaos - Red (orcs, goblins, monsters, ec)
Life - Green (elves, dwarves, centaurs, etc)
Death - Black (undead zombies, skeletons, etc)

When playing, you choose 2 classes to play as.
Each Class will be smaller in size; approx 5 figures.
Each Class will also have their own specialised techs.
There will be at least 2 classes in each faction.

So you could choose to play as 2 Order classes for a more Medieval theme, or mix it up and play 1 Chaos and 1 Life class to get benefits in 2 different areas.

I think this system gives many more options, with the possibility of new classes being added easily and staying balanced. With 8 classes for example, you'd have 21 different combinations to choose from.

Unlike the current system, where you'd have only the set themes, which wouldnt be as many options.

Resources will also be more Faction based as well.

At this point, I've got Gold, Food, Knowledge, Wood, Ore and possibly Magic.

All Factions use Gold, Food, Knowledge the same, but Wood, Ore and Magic are used differently.

Order* = balanced Wood + Ore + Magic
Chaos = mostly Wood + Ore
Life = mostly Wood + Magic
Death = mostly Ore + Magic

This way, if you choose 2 Chaos classes, you really only need to worry about Wood + Ore, and not Magic. But then you miss the techs you'd get from other Factions.

I had thought about 4 different resources for the Factions, but then you'd have a situation where choosing 2 classes could mean collecting 2 resources, 3 resources or even 4 resources, depending which Factions you chose from.

You'd sure never know what to expect in a campaign situation! I like that aspect a lot, just not knowing what to expect around the next corner.

I don't like that there's no blue... but that aside, the faction/class concept is very nice.

I had also thought about Brown:Neutral and Blue:Magic.

But I want to get the main 4 Factions right before looking at expanding.

Based on how this game has progressed, I would say Req should be darn sure he has everything he wants in WoK before he goes live! Too many "updates" and "fixes" will kill that game faster than a Mogfart will clear a room.

.............(fart)

That is exactly my opinion too, Neb. It needs to work GREAT before anyone but a core group of testers has played the crap out of it, and I do mean crap.

Fine! Proteus and I will test it for at least 2-3 days before it is released!

For those of you who weren't aware of it, Proteus is Requiem's alter-ego, his invisible friend who he talks to late at night. They discuss magical unicorns, elf-wonders and the Teletubbies.

Requiem is one sick SOB, my friends.

...but Proteus is a really nice guy once you get to know him.
