after chatting with a vip of the game today ,i have been thinking that the castle format we have could be changed
ie
a real 1066 Norman style castle had a center `keep` with walls around that, out side of this would be the town ..ie the ,blacksmith and market ect and this would be defended by walls ,pallis and ditches ect i might play with map maker and see what could be done as an example

Yes, I would love to change the setup of castles back to the old 1 building system, or even just a much smaller (9x9?) castle floor.

Of course that would mean updating all the existing maps.

I wish that all the mines in your area were much closer to your castle,to make it easier to fortify and defend them. I play tribal wars and all the mines are located real close to the castle walls.Check out the site.

if the mines are any closer, what's the point in having them? we might as well just get the resources from the castle.
Afterall, if they are going to attack the mines that close, they will be attacking the Castle instead.

These are a few ideas for the `keep` of the castle , the part you need to protect, around this you would build your barracks and market,blacksmiths ect, perhaps and you might build a palli defence around this second area, and your mines would be out side this area which you also might protect in some way.

i would like to see a castle base that would have a `keep` and an area for say 8 to 10 barracks surounded by a palli fence to be upgraded as normal,

To take a castle you would have to take the keep .

comments and ideas very welcome

First, a comm can't take a castle while on rubble or blood.

I really like the idea of changing the castle design and while reading this it hit me that this change and the new deployment system could be combined in a way.

Basically, if we can only deploy 1 stack out of a barracks in a turn (with the new system) then what's the point of having 4 hexes to deploy from? So instead of using the current 4 hex barracks building maybe something like the drawbridge building would be smaller and better suited as a barracks. For simplicity, we might as well use the drawbridge anyway since they aren't very useful in the current game.

Then for a keep building we could use the old barracks building as the center point for a castle and what you need to take to control the castle. That would make it slightly more difficult to take the whole castle since your comm has to get right in the middle to attempt a take over rather than sitting on any random castle hex.


I wish i knew how to post pics, but this is code from the map editor with the basic idea. The stone walls would be where the keep (barracks building) would be and the drawbridges would be the new barracks.

Yes Coop, I agree that Barracks would become 1-hex buildings, and I would like to see Castles/Keeps return to the 2x2-hex buildings of yester-year.

and thats all you would start with!

of course, you can deploy from your castle the same as though it were a barracks.

Not sure if i completly understand the concept of keep/castle and drawbridge/barracks and how it will all change, but i do like the way the castle look with what harold did....sorta...i like having two ways to come out of the castle, where as what you built, most only have 1 way to come out. i do like all the towers because if you stack a bunch of archers you could dominate(if the towers were actually inside the castle)

right ive had a play ,but i think the existing barracks 2x2 would fit the keep idea fine and as coop said the draw bridge would be a great barracks
