| Posted : Sunday, 25 November 2007 - 23:36 With the exception of the fleet in STP your orders were exactly as you sent them to me. You sent me an illegal move for your fleet in STP and I received no response from you when I queried it days ago.
I cant be checking and re-checking every little order everyone sends me, I just dont have the time.
Make sure: a.) The move is legal b.) you give me the correct move destinations and not unreadable garbage. c.) That the last set of orders you send is exactly what you want.

| Posted : Sunday, 25 November 2007 - 23:43 Is this an unwritten rule somewhere? I thought fleets could move from coastal property to coastal property? Why is STP > NWY not legal? That makes no sense. | | Nebuchadnezer DoCJoined 9/06/2005 Posts : 3017

| Posted : Monday, 26 November 2007 - 00:36 Hi Neb! I love Diplomacy and felt compelled to help you understand that the rule does, in fact, make sense.
I'm sure you can see why a fleet in Great Britain in the territory of Liverpool could not move directly to the neighboring territory of York. Although an army could do it easily since they share a land border, the fleet would have a difficult time navigating any connecting drainage ditches and thus, must put to sea or move along the coast to get from one to the other.
In your specific situation, it is not necessarily true that a fleet cannot EVER move from StP to FIN. The rules actually state that you must specify which coast your fleet is on in your orders when a territory has multiple coasts that are interrupted by another territory or land mass (Spain, Bulgaria, and St Petersburg). The standard starting positions do specify that one Russian fleet starts at St Petersburg (south coast) and thus what Gai said is likely correct in your case. An incorrect order would be StP(sc)>NWY near the game start...although after a number of moves, or building an authorized new fleet in St Petersburg with (nc) specified, StP(nc)>NWY could be perfectly legitimate. Of course, the fleet at StP(nc) could not move to FIN, BOT, or LVN.
Just to fill in the blanks...a couple territories that have multiple coasts connected by water that allow a fleet to transit freely and therefore don't need any indication on the orders are Constantinople and Kiel.
I hope this all makes sense to you and helps clarify the situation. Russia is rarely screwed royally for long unless attacked by a strong alliance...if you would like any ideas or somebody to bounce a plan off of, just pop me a note. Best of luck, H. | | Nebuchadnezer DoCJoined 9/06/2005 Posts : 3017

| Posted : Wednesday, 28 November 2007 - 08:50 You work at an internet cafe! It's probably mandatory for you to download programs.
"Mr. Gaiyamato, we need to talk about your downloading software on to your work computer. You've only downloaded 5 programs today. If you don't get 10 by the end of the day, we're going to have to let you go." | | Gaiyamato Joined 14/08/2007 Posts : 521

"Mr Gaiyamato, You haven't played enough Age of Empires II [conquerors] and Battlefield 2 today. The patrons need a challenge so they stay here and pay more money."
Thats an actual bonafide quote, give or take a few words..
