When the game starts and u open ur map. u look and c that there isn''t alot resources around u, but u do get 1 of each buildings. So with that saying, the queston is...

What is best to train 4?

1) Scouts, Swordsmen, Spearmen/Archers:

2) Sqires, Pikemen & Arbs/Balista:

I think #1. but if i could i would try (if i had 1 of each building) Sqires, Scouts, & Balista. Sence u will have only b allowed 3 barricks.

and the reason for this queston is. i had a conversation with a player and he said the he will trian 4 #2.


what u all think is best?

On the Ancient Island map you have to take a castle and the resources before you can really afford to get much more than basic troops and scouts are by far the best, albeit most expensive basic troops. They are fast and pack a reasonable wallop when backed up with expert weapons or better. They only cost gold, no resources.

After that, I tend to go for ballistas, then squires. Squires are fine for rushing ranged troops and taking the counterattack. Ballista are quite useful for knocking out other ranged and pesky 5 pops, etc.

Ultimately, hey, HC, Knights, Mace and Marks are what make an unstoppable army, though.

Req considered a flat troop systme long ago. But since it hasn''t shown up to date, scouts are the best you can get for gold-only, available always and are the fastest troop on the field. Rock always struggles against it''s own tier-counter (in medi at least) and those poor spears ain''t really got a shot.

So yeah, scouts scouts scouts.

Well, kingmen3, it depends on what version of the game you''re playing.

While online at WOL, and playing one of the formatted games, you are forced to build Scout, Miliamen, Spearmen, and Commandeer.

For the downloaded version, I''m not sure.

I haven''t heard of anything else at WOL events.

You have your territory's resource buildings and loose resources, and you also have the resources you start with: the initial supply.

i go for pikes and scouts initially and then with the third barracks go for arbs/balista/ and slowly getting my other 2 for falcs instead of scouts or squires

That's interesting, Mechdestroyer. You must have much metal (ore) supply for all that.

You also must spend much, initially, on upgrades (Advance and Expert Melee). Very expensive!

What happens when you only have one ore resource location? That would mean that you are able to obtain another later on in the event, or that you must conquer to gain strategic ore resource locations.

Very difficult and tough in the initial scheme. Certainly not impossible with the huge reserves at the beginning of an event--even though the size of the reserve might change in the future.

Every player, in addition, begins the event with selecting builds, which means you also selected what builds to begin with.

Well, anyhow, metal, stone, and wood have a tendency to quickly disappear. It's great to know that you can progress so efficiently!

my biggest problem initially is gold and rarely metal stone or ore. admittedly i havent played many campaigns but in the one im in and all the duels ive been in they all come with about 800-1000 in the resource piles around you.
My strategy initally is to be producing the units even if i cant buy them now. usually when i produce units it is the only ting i do that turn bc i run out of gold or resources.

but man i hate sharing my strats but what i do is first turn get the military upgrade and get the military academy and training guild and then upgrade one of my barracks to advanced troops and get them going on the first tun either squires or pikemen i used to do squires but with all the scouts i keep encoutnering i switched to pikemen now and just let em build up turn 2 taxes and then 3rd turn the advanced recruitment to boost my production by 30% and already on the third turn im getting huge sums of guys in my barracks i dont get the blacksmith sometimes for a couple of turns

ive encoutned now many people that build 12 scouts which i dont think ive ever done i always usually with my left over money build the scouts in groups of 5 as walls and retal tackers and scouts.

you should really b thinking about that 3rd barraks.any spare gold you might havr by producing scouts will go towards that..most of us have it build by turn 6 if not before.

And taxes in my opinion should b the first teck you get.

really.... hmm i will have to rethink my builds then i go to produce the most out of what i have instead of the 3rd barracks i will have to figure that in somewhere and get that out soon

Well, I know one: you can''t build Archers during the initial selection process.

Archers is a Technology that must be selected and paid for.

Now what system here allows for Archers to be an initial selection?

I''d like to point out that it is possible to have all your buildings built, including the barracks and marketplace, and have Tax Reform as well, all by turn 5.
