Which would be a btter choice in camps, a lot of smaller stacks that can attack many troops in a turn or a few large stacks that can decimate anyone who gets in their way

This has been debated before. It's a matter of preference and style of play. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I suggest you experiment and decide which you like better.

A mix I think is best, a big killerstack and some smaller to be able to zoc and take retal.

I go with tonnes of 50-80 pop stacks... so a medium amount of medium power for me...
I like fighting people with a few big stacks... I just surround them, shoot them with range and wear them down...
I also like fighting people with lots of small stacks... you can just shoot them down and mop the rest of them up.

So both ways have advantages/disadvantages. The big stack way works sometimes, the small stack way works sometimes, LOD's way works sometimes, my way works sometimes... you gotta be flexible... don't keep to tactics that are making you lose...
But it's really a matter of preference, so just find a way you like

Mix. Would you send 100 scouts to do scouting ahead or would you send 5 (knowing that you do not know what lies ahead)?

I like to move with 1-2 small scouts in front and another one staying with the main armies for backup.

Game 41 suggests people scout in force lately.

Skirmish rules also mess this up quite nicely, although I have no skirmish pedigree to comment on - maybe one of these folks will now I've mentioned it

Yeah LOD's strategy only works sometimes.

haha nice call on that Fin. and i guess only sometimes my name is killerdude too

yes, this is a much debated subject, and everyone develops their own style of play throughout their tenure on WoL, so listening to anyone would really not help but i would prefer to definately have some stacks for zoc and retal. Also, Skirmish games have max damage which means it is ok to have stacks that do 1000+ damage, while in other games which arent skirmish's troops can only do 1k damage, so you probably dont want too many large armies. Just my opinion dont know if anyone would agree :p
