It appears Req has indeed implemented a resource floor at 2k. It may be at a percentage, however. Brave souls are requested to try this in a duel or standard size map

I had someone sell a gem, then I tried to buy 500. Not allowed. Then I bought the guy's gem - allowed - and tried to buy another - not allowed. It appears Req actually HAS put a floor in

There also appears to be a price ceiling at 100 'value'.

While Req has put floors on the stock and celiings on the prices (or tried! - it flashes the true price a few times... ), he has not preserved the base selling at the market.

Selling 500 Metal will give you 0 Gold
Selling 500 Gems will give you 11 Gold

If I'm reading this right, he sold all his resources, and bought all the gems he could. The other resources are worth nothing by the time he's done selling, thereby dealing everyone else in the game a big blow by leaving them with worthless resources that sell for a nickel.
However, CTD now has 80,000 gems that are worth $220 each. This happened because he bought as many gems as possible thereby driving the price higher and higher. The bug he refers to, deals with the cap on pricing. Req must have capped it off at a certain level. CTD must have found a way that the cap is overridden and he can sell his gems for much more than he paid for them. Right now his gems are worth 17,000,000. Of course once he starts selling, the price he gets should drop, so it won't quite be 17,000,000, but I bet it's pretty good chunk of change...more than he spent to do this.

Of course it takes a lot of cash and patience to do this...am I close? The only question left is, what is the bug that allows this? And why is CTD exploiting this bug in an active game? I should maybe post this on the bug forums...

The 'bug' as you so put it, was me having 15 castles out of 40 at the end of an ultra game. A game that was due to end about 6 hours later. I roped Ult here into helping, and with his dozen or so castles we would have about 2/3rds of the map's resources.

The FULL specific point, I'm not going to reveal. But what I WILL tell you is that this is preliminary work on just what the market can take and how it works.

So, you want to report? Go for it
Req almost certainly knows about the 2k cap, but he really ought to know about the price cap bug. And since none of this cap business was public knowledge (at least as far as I know) I've just done a public service in providing everyone with strategic info.

In short, if you want the best possible results in your games, you will inevitably need the best understanding of the game mechanics you can get, and afaik the market mechanics are still largely unknown save for the principles. (Except Req of course, but he ain't playing and probably wouldn't reveal all the mechanics anyway )

That's also why I've sent the open invite to the community to try messing the market about on some smaller maps, where the base values are much lower. Is the cap really 2k? What kind of variations can knock out of the system?

Some thoughts.
