I''ve now switched to using the new Isometric (3d-ish) map.

Players using the Local Downloads will NEED to download the latest file (in the Downloads page) in order to play.

Check this thread for more information.

This new map also changes the movement/radius system from 8 angles to only 6 angles.
Much like a Hex map, there are only 6 directions of movement, and building/army radii are also based on this 6 degrees of movement.

Movement in any direction now only counts as 1.
Eg, moving Up/Down, BottomLeft/TopRight or BottomRight/TopLeft is just 1 sqr, much like a Hex map.
Going straight from left to right is not possible, nor can you melee attack anything directly right/left of your army.

and none of this takes a hit to your bandwidth? or did you finally find a provider?

That is a great improvement REQ, at least visually

However, I prefer the 2-d version, I can see the situation clearer...any chance that player can choose between the 2-modes via configuration?

not really no.
it uses a different movement/radius system now too, which makes going back to a sqr (8-direction) mode imposible.

i am always looking to improve the isometric version though, so any suggestions let me know.

howdy!
it looks great. and the possibility to zoom out is very helpful, as well.
whether the old 2d map was clearer-that is whether it was easier to see stuff at once- i dont know yet. perhaps.
but one probably has to get used to it, i guess.
however, the speed with which all the changes/improvements are implemented is outstanding.
i''ll have to donate some bucks, i guess.
(i would have anyway)

It may just take some ajustment time, but the new map looks a lot better but is a little less understandable.

About the new mmap:

The armies look better, but the rest is a little too

pixelated still, plus it really doesn''t make as much sense,

and is a lot harder to easily do things.

Ok, follow up:

Basically the armies is all I like about the new map. Having

those white dots helped the building process. Because of

the new 3D angle it is a lot harder to click on ''the right

spot''. And finally something that might be a gliche: you can

no longer attack on diagonals. Whether that is on purpose

or a gliche I think that you should deffinitely be able to

attack on diagonals.

Ok, one more thing, I like the new auto-adjusting coords in

the upper left.

Incredible! That''s is just what I have to say about the new map interface.

But, is it me or I can''t check buildings''s stats or use units deployed in buildings?

True, the 3d-ish nature of the view does make it a little more complex. But I think its just a matter of getting used to it.
Going from a flat, 8-angle display to a 3d 6-angle display will take some adjustments.

This is also why you cannot attack on the left to right diagonal. These sqrs are no longer 1 sqr apart. Please read the top of this thread for an explanation.

Remember, there are only 6 angles in the game now, not 8.
Much like a Hex map.

btw. The buildings should look less pixilated than before as they are slightly bigger. Still, I''m not a graphic artist so anyone who wants to donate new gfx are more than welcome.

Also, you can change the size of your Map window to scale the map itself. Might make it easier.

What are the parameters for the graphics(units, buildings, etc)? I''d like to try out drawing a bit...

howdy!
up to now, i got used to the new map. it''s no problem for me, at all. i really like it very much. but sometimes when i click on a unit that is within my barracks, the program thinks that i clicked on hex nearby. i dont think that this is my fault, as i have played on isometric hex maps before.
but im not sure.
just wanted to let you know,

eth. when you click on a building, the image that appears on the right (info frame) are the base images. Its these images (using transparency) that are imported into flash.

So if you use those as a template, you should be ok.
Basically, 1sqr(diamond) is 40x20 pixels.

As for the armies...
The problem is when you double click an army too quickly when its in a certain position. This is due to the way it detects which tile you''re one (being isometric is pretty complicated).
If you double click a bit slower, making sure the ? is over the army, it will select the correct sqr.
I will be looking at tweaking this in the next version.

Now thatI have gotten used to the new map I like it more

except for the 6 angle versus 8 angle. With the new map

when you level up you get a choice of attributes to

upgrade, choosing one out of four. This is when you level

up killing troops. I like the idea that you can choose, but

there are two things: one, with the new map when you level

up killing a building it works the same as it used to, same

interface and everything, even when you just attack a

building; and second the old way when you leveled up it

automatically upgraded ALL four attributes, not one, so now

it takes A LOT LONGER to build up a beefy army, UNLESS you

are killing buildings and it works the way it used to.

Just my thoughts...
